HEADLINE: ICE Mask Upheld in California

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder blocked California from enforcing the No Secret Police Act against federal officers, allowing on-duty facial coverings to continue. The ruling comes amid backlash over masked immigration enforcement, prompting State Sens. Scott Wiener and Jesse Arreguín to introduce SB 627 to increase transparency following criticism of unmarked vehicles. The judge left open the possibility of future legislation applying to all law enforcement, with Wiener stating he would immediately pursue broader coverage, including state police.

FEATURE: Maxwell Wants Clemency

On Monday, Ghislaine Maxwell invoked her Fifth Amendment rights and refused to answer substantive questions during a videolink deposition from a federal prison camp in Texas. The House Oversight Committee pressed ahead with the deposition despite resistance from her attorneys, as the DOJ released more than three million additional pages related to the Epstein case and scheduled further depositions for Feb. 26 and 27. Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, said she remains silent due to a pending habeas petition but would speak if granted clemency by President Donald Trump. With Epstein deceased, Maxwell remains the only person convicted in connection to the case.
